Do you think Television is Decivilizing or Enlightening?

I think whether television is decivilizing or enlightening depends heavily on TV viewers rather than TV itself. It is true that watching television in excess will result in decivilization . Heavy TV viewers will form habits of avoiding complexity, indulging in a visual stimulation instead of thought and giving up verbal precision. What is worse is that TV addicts will become "functionally illiterate. " They cannot read and write well enough to answer the want ad or understand the instructions on the medcine bottle .

I agree that the way television affects people depends on the viewers not on the TV. There are many TV stations that broadcast educational and informative documentaries or shows. Watching those can only lead to an increase in someone's knowledge.
