hello i was just wondering what do you do when you bump into somebody while out shopping or running errands and you say hi how are you and they start going on and on and on forever about everything such as family health finane-etc--i usually apologize and say i have a doctors appointment and i am running late-catch up with you soon-how do you handle the situation??

Good question! I usually start to feel a little uncomfortable and instead of actually listening to what they're saying I try to think of a way out. Then I wonder if they can tell by my eyes that I'm not paying attention, which leads me to think they might think I'm not too bright! I have very readable eyes that show everything (huge downfall). Finally I try to wait for an end of one subject sentence and say I have to go.
I don't mind running into someone and saying hi but I'd prefer to sit down and talk over coffee to do the catching up.

I dont usually stay and finish an entire converstion if im busy. The only exception to this is if i acually want to talk to the person I ran into, rather than the other way around.

I just tell them it was nice to see them and catch up with them, but I have to go. Which is not a lie, because I am a really busy person, and everyone knows that.
