Indiana Jones & the Crystal Skull. Should Spielberg have left well enough alone?

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. That movie got some mixed reviews. There was so much hype around it. Honestly, I was scared to think of poor Harrison Ford trying to run around as the whip-carrying crusader. The Last Crusade was awesome! I think my favourite of the first three parts. So I was really looking forward to see the 4th part of the series but I was disappointed by the Crystal Skull. I know Spielberg wanted to make the movie as old-fashioned as possible and without a lot of computer graphics which I can understand. He wanted to stay true to the series but I'm not sure it came across the way he hoped it would. What do you think?

To put it blunt I was quite a bit disappointed with the new movie. It did not live up to the hype created around it. For me it was a bit of a disappointment when compared to the previous Indiana Jones films. © ronaldinu 2008

I'm satisfied with Crystal Skull. It's not the best in the series, but I would consider it the third best -- behind Raiders and Last Crusade, but well ahead of Temple of Doom. Things I liked (in no particular order): - Cate Blanchett as the baddie; - the return of Marion; - nods to the Ark of the Covenant and to Marcus Brody; - Indy! Things I didn't quite like: - Karen Allen sometimes looked like she's out of it; - the entire nuclear explosion scene and how Indy survived it; - the aliens' departure But I'd still watch the movie when it gets aired on TV. :)
