Who picks out the movie rentals at your house?

How do you decide that? What about the kids? Do they have a vote? When we go to Blockbuster to get a rental, we have a dilemna lately. My daughter and son now have completely different movie tastes. My husband is ready to move on from the "family" movie section. Since my son is 14, they seem to want the same movies. My daughter is still looking at the family of kid sections. I would like us all to agree, but I can see that since my son is older, that is not going to happen anymore. If we get a movie just for each kid, they end up watching them alone. Watching a movie (at least to me) should be a shared experience. We are having a hard time with this at this particular stage. What about your family? Who decides? Do you take turns? Who ends up watching the movies together?

We get one movie each. My son chooses one, I choose one and my hubby chooses one (if he finds one he likes). Most of the time it's just my son and I that chooses dvds.

We watch my sons movie together and when he goes to bed, we watch our ones. Since we have it for two days, we watch my hubbies choice and then mine.

It has been months since we rented movies to watch at home. It seems like we never have the free time. When we do go, I usually get one movie and my daughter picks out another one. I watch the one my daughter picks out with her and then when she is in bed my husband and I will watch the one I pick out if it isn't appropriate for her to see.

Sounds good. I'm finding that my movie choice counts for less and less these days as my son and husband are now really into the same kinds of movies and my son is old enough now to see them. These of course are usually not my cup of tea. I've been squeezed outMaybe when my daughter is older I can have a chick flick partner

When My fiance and I, as well as his parents rent movies we usually rent some that me and his mom want to watch, some me and my fiance want to watch, and then some that his dad wants to watch... His dad works third shift so he isn't home usually when we watch them.

It's great to share moments like that and maybe a personal joke, a line from the movie no one but the two of you will get! A "you had to be there to see it" moment.

Sounds good. I just don't like to pick a movie unless I know that SOMEONE will watch it with me. Sharing the moment is the best part for me, right? Especially if it's funny, there's nothing better than laughing together. Thanks:)

My da or my sisters pick the movie. If my da picks he'll get something he saw got good reviews but that my sisters just done want to watch. If my sisters get something my dad gets bored and goes to do something else XP everyone else doesnt really care as long as it's not complete carp. it hardly ever works out but oh well..

That's kind of where we are at right now too. It stinks because I really enjoy watching movies together. Going out to the movies is a bit easier. I think it's because the choices are fewer. Thanks:)

Oh, boy - you do have a little dilemna. Well, at my house it is just my husband and I so picking is a little easier. We don't rent movies - we either just DVR them or we "rent" them thru our cable company. I like pretty much anything except horror movies and some "guy" movies. My husband doesn't like the chick-flicks so we usually end up watching action, comedy, or drama. Since my husband and I work different times (unfortunately, since we hardly see each other it seems), we watch our individual likes when the other is not around.

I'm so sorry for coming in so late. Though my kids are quit younger yet, my elder son has started asserting himself and many time we all have to watch his favorite movies and programs only.

I pick the movies. They can give suggestions but I make the decision. That way i don't have a fight on my hands. If they start to fight I just cancel their moives and just get one for my wife and I. :) I try to teach them that movies are a priviledge not a right. They get the point I think.

My two hour break each week is when my husband takes the kids to the library. That's where they 'rent' the movies, lol. Our oldest is seven so they don't have much input in terms of what gets picked. My husband gets movies for us to watch and then gets one out of the childrens' section for the kids on movie night to watch. Sometimes they get to offer input, sometimes not. It all depends on how well they behaved on that trip, lol. Some of the movies my husband gets are really bad (in terms of boring not well made etc). If he still wants to watch them, he gets to watch them alone. But usually we watch them together. The kids movie we all watch. We have Friday night designated as movie night for the kids with popcorn and such. That's also the one night where they get to eat their dinner in front of the TV and it's often junk food stuff like pizza, lol, it's their night.

We don't rent movies that much anymore because we have digital cable from comcast & we have most of the movie channels... We go through the movie lists & pick out what we want to watch... Times we do go out to rent a movie, we pick it out as a family... I'll pick out 2 movies & my girl friend picks out 2, then my girl friend picks out 2... Then we all get together in the middle of the store & we pick 1 or 2 out of the bunch we picked out... LOL, I know it seems little involved but it does have it's upside, walking around the place picking out movies...

So you end up making the decision together then, right? Sort of a process of elimination then. Sounds good. Thanks:)

Hi ya rocketj1 We don't ever rent out movies because we seem to have quite a lot of dvd's now so my kids just choose one from the collection and take it in turns as to who decides which one we are going to watch!

We used to do more of our own collection too but recently they've "outgrown" what we own already. Thanks:)
