Anyone on WIC?

I have a question regarding WIC. According to the income guidelines for the state that I live in, my husband makes a little more than stated... I am wondering if there is a possibility that we could qualify anyway?

Well, the only time that I have had WIC (and I do have it right now) is by having a baby. I live in Texas and as soon as you get pregnant they give you Medicaid automatically. Don't know if you know what that is, but it is basically free insurance--don't have to pay for Dr visits or prescriptions. Anyhoo, as soon as you have the baby you also automatically receive WIC because you and the baby have Medicaid. And that is the only time I have ever had it. I think that we make too much, so I haven't tried.

I'm not too sure about WIC but my hubby and I were definitely in a financial hardship...couldn't buy food for ourself, couldn't pay rent, even had out electricity and heat shut off in the middle of winter and we still were unable to get help. The case worker told me "if you had a child in the household we'd help you even if you were over qualified." What's up with that. They want woman to practice birth control and then you get punished because you don't have children! It doesn't make sense at all to me!

I was on wic before. I really liked it althouh having to seperate out your foods at the store was a pain. I know it has a lot to do with the number of kids you have. Make sure you are reading the income requirements for the right number of children you have.

They are pretty strict on those guidelines. I know we didn't qualify and I'm not exactly bringing home a fortune.

Well Iknow it is easier to get on if you have children or are pregnant. If you are pregnant than they count the baby as a person even before they are born if that helps at all. I do know if you qualify they make you go to various classes & such. Good luck.
