Why do Horses like beer so much?

A thing which I have never understood. It is quite normal for the owner of a horse to add a pint of beer to a horses bran ... a 'bran mash', as we used to call it when I was a kid.
To the horse, and I speak from owner experience, this is a real treat - they love it (most of them). But why?
If you let em, they would be quite happy to come to the pub with you and have some more - heaven only knows what the walk home would be like.
And what is it with Polo mints? Are they trying to attain nice breath, in the event that they might meet an attractive mare or stalion? And why Polo's? ... why not 'Trebor mints'?
And if all this isn't enough, they have the audacity to stand there and let rip with the most un-ashamed and noisy farts!!
And after all this loutish behaviour, we still get up with the larks, in the freezing cold, just to take a shovel and clean up their poo!

Well, they are rather nice are'nt they. If I had my way, I would make it obligatory for every human to ride a horse, just once, to see if they liked it, because I meet so many people who say that they 'hate' horses, for one reason or another, yet when I ask them about their experiences, they say that they have never ridden one.

My bro got on one as a child, but he was/is afraid of heights. I think he's less afraid now. My sister and I both rode, I was much more into it than she was, but even tho she rode less, and fell less, she was much more seriously hurt than I ever was.

Yes, that's a down side to it isn't it. Though, I think I prefer falling from a horse than being involved an RTA.
