Untill recently I believed that Laptop and Notebook was the same thing, but one fellow told me that there is some difference between these two. However, he could not tell the difference. So, what do you people think?

I think they are the same. I use these two terms interchangably.

I always thought they amounted to the same thing. It's the same object but with two different names like many things in this world nowadays.

These two terms are the same. Either you call it notebook or laptop it doesn't matter at all. The terms are used by the manufacturer when they came out with their product line. For me Laptop is more appropriate when referring to these 'mobile -computers'.
