Have you ever gotten sick while on vacation?

Once I was traveling and got really bad flu. Or, maybe it was salmonella or food poisoning. I'd been eating pizza that day and just started to feel sick. Felt like the flu. Ruined the entire trip. Have you ever gotten sick while traveling or going on vacation? Did you cancel your vacation plans or continue sight seeing at your destination as if you weren't sick.

Fortunately, no I never have. Like the first reply said, I don't travel very far from home very much. I usually go on vacation once a year, if at all. So like the reply said, the chances of it happening are really low. Although it has happened to my mother a few years back several times. The two times I can remember, we weren't actually anywhere on vacation though. I can remember it happening twice when I was younger. Both times my family and I had gone to visit some relatives who lived a few hours away (not as a vacation though, of course). When we were about to leave, she got really sick. I think both times it happened we were in Arkansas.

Once I went to southamerica , we were planning to do backpacking for 3 months but just when I was in the airport, I broke my leg with a ladder so I had to stay hospitalized for 1 month. It was one of the worst experiences of my life.

Yea, the first time was on my honeymoon. LOL I got food poisening at the restaurant we ate at. Great huh? Then back in '97 I got sick with heat stroke while on vacation in Colorado. I was sick for the rest of the trip after that for some reason. Pretty much spoiled the whole trip. Odd thing was I never got well after that vacation. My health continued to get worse, until I ended up disabled as I am now. I spent the next three years after that trip seeing specialist after specialist until they finally figured out what was wrong with me. Strange huh?

i don't get ill very often. But also lucky not to get any illness while i am traveling or when I am on vacation. When i go outside i use to have same water ot that locality, so may be the reason where change of weather dosent effect me much. I have seen many people get cold and cough after long travel or holidays.

I once caught a cold on a camping trip, and it really sucked. I just wanted to be at home in my own bed. I started to get sick on a two week trip to Arizona, but my fiance at the time (and he's now my husband!!!) took really good care of me with cold remedies that weren't available in Canada. LOL I was better in no time, and ready to have fun.

I have it it was not very fun. I went with a girl friend on a five day trip across the country to her sisters wedding. I got really sick and ended up with pneumonia. Was was bad is that the girl friend claimed I intentionally got sick to ruin her time. Ya, right I got pneumonia on purpose. You can imagine that the relationship did not last much longer. And there were a lot of things I really wanted to see because I had never been to that state. It really did ruin our plans as well as our relationship.

yes, I had a terrible alergy attack and couldnt sleep well. I did not cancel but was miserable untill I got home!I didnt cancel because we had other family members to consider and it wouldnt have been right. I do hate it when that happens and you never know when it will.

Yes, I vomited when I had a travel to Sichuan Province. It's so terrible. Perhaps I didn't follow the time to have a meal. So I felt bad after that. And somewhat I even vomited. But I still continued my trip anyway because I didn't want to spoil our travel plan. I love China

I have taken some vacations in the extremes of weather, but I have never gotten sick. And I owe that to my seriously strong immune system. I eat whatever i want and whatever I can, but I still do not fall sick. It's bad when you fall sick during your time out and the times which were supposed to have fun are ruined because of bad health. Although I do not fall sick, my people at home make sure that we have some medicines for emergency situations. bourne

I don't really travel much at all, so luckily the chances of this happening are really low! Hopefully this doesn't happen to you ever again, it sounds like misery! There should be vacation insurance for this, if you get sick, you can stay longer after you get better or something.

I guess it's a stress or immune issue. Lots of stress lowers the immune system. Most vacations are fraught with stressful events.

We went on a family vacation when I was 10 yrs old. Me, my brother, mom & dad. We drove from Illinois to Montana to spend 2 weeks with friends up there. After a few days I started feeling a little sick so they took me to the local doctor and after some blood tests found out I had Mononeucleosis. A couple of days later Mom & little brother came down with a very wicked cough. With the 3 of us sick Dad cut the vacation short and took us home. By the time we got back I was sicker than a dog, Mom & little brother had viral pneumonia and were also extremely sick. Dad got the same bug and Mom & brother did but didn't get as sick as they did. He just had a bad cough for a few days then he was fine. The rest of us were sick for the rest of the summer. It was the summer vacation from hell!

No, luckily not. Although I do remember one holiday when my children were younger, I only had three boys then and on the last day my middle son became sick. He was just chucking up everywhere, and he threw up ALL the way home in the car and because he was only little he could not control it. It was awful, and we had a 2 hour journey too, and even worse was the car we had was a hire car! He was sick really bad and it was a tummy bug, I got it a couple of days later and it totally knocked me off my feet, I could not stand or anything. Horrible.
