What to do to stop my dog eating rubbish outside?

My dog is 6 months, when we walk he constantly picks up crap along the road. Anything he finds and won't drop it. I even try prising it out of his mouth but this is quite difficult. He is fed enough so he's not hungry. It's beginning to annoy me, when he acts like a blood hound sniffing all the crap. When we go to the park he doesn't want to play, just sniff around at the rubbish. I have bought a muzzle, he hates it, but i am afraid he will eat poison.

At 6 months old he should be still cutting new teeth. He probably isn't eating this stuff but probably just chewing it. No doubt his gums hurt and it helps to chew on things. Get him something he can chew on at home. Get something that is tough that he can't eat. An old boot or these rawhide bones and be sure it matches his size. You didn't say what kind of dog and this can have a lot to do with this.
