I know this is supposed to be a literary classic and all but i've just gotten down to reading it My impression : It is totally insane. The author is crazy. The characters are all crazy. And you'd be crazy too not to read it. Genius. Just genius! My favourite character so far is of course Yosarrian cos he's the craziest of all. Who is yours?

Reading Heller in my youth kept me sane. I still have his book and have read it many times. Every time I read it, I get something more out of it. It's just one of those kind of books you know? I hope you keep your copy and read it again and again as time goes on. You won't regret it.

Yosarrian is my favorite character too. But I didn't find the book insane, I found the world around me insane after I'd read it. The evil of war, the logic of survival against the values the military, the politicians, society itself in it's desperation to remain civilized becomes uncivilized and evil rules. Heller's approach to this topic is darkly humerous and ingeniously presented. Everyone should read this book if only to discover the logic of survival through the rejection of social mores and values that allow the evil to exist and grow.

I just finished reading Catch-22 and I loved it. I started seeing craziness in the world around me after I read it. My favorite part of the book was when the guy (i can't remember his name, the young guy) was talking to the old man with all the girls lying around the room and they were arguing about whether or not it was beneficial to win the war and the old man was talking about how Ireland prospers because it's always under someone elses control. By far my favorite chapter in the book.
