Do you think my stuff is copyrighted.... or not?

I submitted two scripts, one in December 2007, one in January 2008. The D.C. office e-mailed me saying the filing fee changed (I didn't know), so I re-submitted the filing fee online via credit card to them for both works, they then sent me an e-mail saying Thank you for you submitting your CC payment with the US Copyright Office. Your Payment was received and processed in the amount of $45.00 on such and such day. Your authorization # is blah blah blah. And that was in April. However, since then, I have not received a letter or anything in the mail regarding my copyright. In July, I e-mailed them about it -- they never got back to me. I tried calling them, they're always busy or long waiting periods. I know it takes 6 months to a year to copyright a work you did, but i'm just a little concerned.... should I be? or am I not waiting long enough?

Your original work is already copyrighted. You should take the original manuscript and mail it to yourself registered mail so you have to sign for it and then do not open it. This gives you protection if you end up in court for any reason. The minute you write something, produce something of any kind it is copyrighted. The formality of going through the legal copyright is just that a protection formality.

I think that you need to go their website online and do a search under your work titles and/or your name. You can also call or email them if you need to know definitively. You must search under any names that you used within the copyright form. Hope this helps you. Thanks. Blessings
