Has the race to the white House turn into a coloured showdown. It does not look good from where I am sitting in another country. Can someone explain what is happening over there for me?Pleassssse!!!

The guy at the McCain rally was reportedly a local conservative radio host who was specifically invited to the rally and seated in the front row. There's no showdown, just politics as usual. I'll put my cynicism aside and say that race had nothing to do with the invitation. It was all about his political ideology.

Well this guy has angered us. He represents a sell out. He should know better but if I remember the incidence he might have been wearing glasses or if not the needs a pair. Do you know an Opthalmologist?

I don't think he is a sellout. I think he is a man who believes differently than Obama about what is best for this country, and the color of his skin should not be held against him for speaking his mind. That's not what this country or this election should be about. No one should be counted a traitor to his race because he doesn't believe that Obama is the right candidate for this country. It is NOT about skin color.

It makes me VERY sad to hear that, spalladino. It makes me wish I had a louder voice - a newspaper column or high-visibility blog - or a connection to the campaign to point out the irony and the disparity of the situation. It's shameful and we should be calling it out loudly. And by WE I mean every Obama supporter who has any kind of voice at all.

Sadly, race will be an issue for some voters: it is the issue that people don't want to talk about and I suspect it might cost Obama in some marginal states (though with his current lead, he may have enough to take him over the top). Also agree with others that a person should vote for a candidate based on whether they agree with their positions and not be called a traitor simply because they don't back a candidate of their race. I wish this election would stay focused on the issues and not the rest of this bs that is there to distract us. That said, as this campaign has gone on, and in particular with the economic crisis, it seems that people are focusing more on the issues this year, presumably because the US is in such dire straights.
