Is anyone familiar with Dave Ramsey and the total money makeover. I really need to do something to help our financial outlook and was wondering if his approach was a good one. I feel so dumb and ashamed. I know the aspects of money - don't spend if you don't have it. But our family has gone through some hard times with medical problems. And even without the actual medical bills itself medical problems also cause extra gas for going to doctors & such, hotel rooms at times, it even costed us extra for drivers training because son could not do it with the rest of his class. But enough whining I am trying very hard to get us back on our feet and just want to know if Dave Ramsey has a good way to help get us out of debt. Thanks.

My husband and I are currently working the Total Money Makeover. I cannot express to you how much it has helped our relationship. I will spare you the details or our disastrous debt consumed past, but tell you we were there. Feeling dumb and ashamed, nearly loosing our house and close to loosing our marriage. Dave is very realistic. He does a wonderful job walking you through the baby steps and teaches you new tricks to making your money work for you. My husband and I now have weekly budget meetings. We have a great time, laughing, paying bills and talking about our future goals! We are starting to try and make extra money to build up our $1000 emergency fund. We are looking to sell some things and get that build as fast as possible to work on the Debt Snowball. I hope you give it a try!

Thank you for sharing your experience with me. We are working hard on getting out of debt but it is not easy. Especially when my child needs $25,000 worth of medical treatment a year. But we are trying. And will keep on trying. Thanks again.

I am sorry to hear about your child. that must be very difficult. Perhaps there is an organization out there that could help your family with some of that financial burden. Take it one day at a time, one debt at a time! Sometimes even the smallest progress is just what we need to make more happen. Best wishes to you and yours!

Unfortunately, there are no fix-it-quick plans for fixing our financial problems, but Dave Ramsey teaches the best way - get out of debt and stay out of debt. He comes not only from a formal education in finance but from his personal experiences as well. Anyone with any amount of debt can work his plan.
