I admit I am a dummy on this. I have heard the term overclocking the processor but I really don't know what this means.

Overclocking is where you take a computer processor with, say 2.0Ghz of processing power, and force it via software/hardware to a higher power level, say 2.3Ghz. I do not recommend it, as it can easily destroy your processor, and kill your motherboard.

Thanks for the info. It does sound like something that should not be done by average computer users. I won' plan to do it. Computers crap out too easily anyway.

well i think it is better that you avoid doing that if you home is not always maintain a nice temperature. the main thing is when you over clock then it is performing more than the normal power and that means it will heat up quickly and that can be very dangerous to the life of your CPU. if you have good cooling system and AC then you can try but still i would advice you to keep a close watch on the temperature of your CPU when you over clock with a probe or something similar software

I don't think users overclock anything. It is something for the techie guys and for the ones who build computers. It is quite an antiquated idea. Cheers!!

It's better not to adjust its default settings because its much safer that way. Is there any applications that your cpu could not accommodate that's why you went on the decision to overclock your processor?
