Let me start out by saying when my grandmother was a teen she got pushed into a pool and almost drowned, and every since she has been afraid of water,so she raised my mother to be afraid of water also, and my mother never learned to swim, but my mother said she was going to make sure I learned to swim, and did not end up afraid of water to,so between my father,my aunt, and a old friend of my mothers,I was taught to swim and I am pretty good at it,and I am also pretty good at diving off the diving board even though I prefer to float around.

I learned to swim when I was around six and did competitive swimming for 5 years. Think learning to swim is really a personal thing, what some find easy, someone else may find very difficult. I have seen and taught quite a few adults how to swim, I think at times there is a little more to over come because in many cases there have been fears stopping the person from learning in the past. But honestly if you set your mind to it then it can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
