Mouse in the house! Eeek! Have you ever had any pests?

Yesterday I was standing in my kitchen talking to my husband when I saw a shadow dart across the floor in the laundry room. I thought it was a shadow from trucks passing by, since we're on the corner of a busy intersection. A few minutes later, my husband says "uh...there's a mouse in the laundry room". Damn it. It ran behind the washer and I banged at it with a broom for a few minutes, hoping the noise would scare it out so I could...I don't know...hit it or scream or something. It wouldn't come out. I went to the store, got some traps, put a smear of peanut butter on them and waited. I even dreamed about the damn thing last night. Come this morning there's no mouse and the traps are undisturbed. So where is it? I found a hole in the floor in the corner of the laundry room and I think it came up from the crawl space. And hopefully that's where it went again too. I sealed off the hole but I'm leaving the traps up just in case. Have you ever had pests of some sort in your house? Anything unusual? My husband said when he was growing up raccoons and squirrels used to get into the attic of his house. What have you found and what did you do about it?

Several years ago when I used to live at my parents a garden mouse entered our home and could not get out. Only my brother helped me to get rid of it as the rest of my family members were afraid of it. We used it broomsticks to scare it away until it found an open door and got out. © ronaldinu 2008
