I heard a lot of it is genetics. My sister had 2 kids and does't have a single stretch mark. She never wears lotion and she didnt drink too much of water. Just like my sister I never use lotion on my stomach. I am scared of stretch marks because my cousin got them so bad it looks like burnt hanging skin. I am using cocoa butter but sometimes I forgot to put it on. I am five months and so far I have gained 2kgs (from 48-50kg.)When did you get time them if you got any? And how much weight should I be gaining? Thanks!

I had 4 pregnancies and I got stretch marks from all 4 of them. I tried the cocoa butter thing and that did not work for anything. I don't think there is a way to avoid getting them. Your skin only has so much elasticity and after it passes a certain point I think you will get stretch marks, no matter how much stuff you slather on your belly. My mother never got stretch marks with me, so sometimes I think it is genetics and she was just lucky enough to inherit not getting stretch marks. I was not so lucky. However I was only a 6 pound baby and my children were from 7 1/2 pounds all the way to 9 1/2 pounds. So, I think that might have had something to do with it too. Have a nice day and happy myLotting!!!

Every woman is different. Some get stretch marks all over their bellies and some don't get a single one. They say it's based on genetics. I have a few stretch marks around my belly button and some on my hips from my pregnancy. I got all of mine during my last trimester. My mom, however, did not get a single stretch mark while she was pregnant with me or my sister. I don't think there is any way to prevent them. I have heard lotion, especially cocoa butter, is supposed to help. I tried a salve specifically designed for pregnant bellies but I was terrible about remembering to use it on a regular basis. I think it was called tummy honey. It was really thick and sticky. I am proud of my stretch marks. Now, I don't go around with my bellt hanging out in a bikini but I am not embarassed by them. They are just a sign of the incredible person my body created. Plenty of women get them so I don't stress over it.

I am 6 month pregnant now, and I haven't get any stretch mark so far, hopefully I won't get any later too. I started to apply stretch mark lotion (which contains cocoa butter) as soon as I knew I am pregnant, and I apply it every night before I sleep. I didn't know about stretch mark has something to do with the genetics. I heard the stretch mark will make you feel a bit painful, so I'd better apply lotion to prevent it. My doctor told me 1 month pregnant should gain about 2kgs, I didn't gain much weight at the beginning of my pregnancy, but now I've gained from 41kg to 48kg (7 kgs gained), doctor said it's normal or I'm still underweight. But, as long as the baby is healthy and I'm healthy, then it's fine. I guess the weight gain depends on the body size too. It's better that you consult your gynaecologist.
