When commuting by bus,use bus stops that are lit well and not isolated or dangerous.Often bus stations are in a close proximity to train stations, and some even share waiting rooms and other amenities. If lighting leaves something to be desired, consider perching in fornt of adjoining sores' light, and make a note to report to the bus company where their lights are burend out or boren.

In my local city there are two train stations, one near the city center and the other is called a parkway station. That second station has many bus stops outside it but all are request stops. The buses don't stop unless a passenger puts their arm out. So that means lots of people miss the bus that they wish to travel on. When I was in Kenya on a train the carriage was dark to most people wanted to move to a different carriage. I was settled so I didn't bother. I had a strong torch so I was fine. However it most not be awfully nice to travel on a bus that has poor lighting.
