does tattoo an expression of art? or expression of feeling?

i dont have any tattoos at all but i am just curious why people like to have a tattoo. does it have any significant why you need to have one? and im talking about the permanent tattoo.. what can you benefit to have it? please do answer my question cause if ever ill be enlightened ill be getting my own tattoo soon..

Well.. I have tattoos in my neck and I like it so much, it's been there since a year ago and I was thinking of adding something to it. For me, Tattoo is not an expression of art, it is the art itself. And and art is an expression of feeling, but since feeling is a temporary feeling, I usually refused to make a tattoo based on feeling because it would be there permanently. I usually choose really carefully the design of the tattoo that I would make.
