libraries or internet?

hi! for a good source of information, the internet is unquestionable. it provides a wide funnel of information basically about anything and everything. when we talk about convenience, resorting to online researches is far better. however, the beauty of libraries must be kept over the next generations. the importance of libraries must be preserved just how the books are preserved. if you were to do a research, would go to the library and browse through the pages of the books available or sit down in from of the computer to surf the net?

Yes, libraries are losing their touch. Thanks to internet for that. It is a social responsibility to preserve libraries. I can still go to a library to search for information, sadly cannot find one in surrounding 20 miles.

hi pkraj111. it's sad that libraries are being overlooked nowadays. i hope the next generations would still be acquainted as to what is a library and the essence of getting more knowledge and reliable researches from such building. the thought that you are surrounded by books in a quiet room shared with strangers who have the same purpose is something that i consider priceless.

The problem with the internet is knowing whether or not your source is reliable. I think because of this I would use the net for a little info but get most things from books.

hi. true. things you get from the net are not 100% reliable. especially right now, anybody can claim writing an article from original point of view. plus there aren't much laws that will protect writers agains plagiarism. if it's for a research, i'd probably resort to books. the only problem here, books are getting more expensive by the year.

Hello rocketj1, If you enjoy reading immensely, then by all means read first, then go to the net. If the net info is correct then it should correspond to the book. Some people just use net and can be reliable if written by an authorized person (one who knows what they are talking about or is the author). Sometimes it is someone who is quoting someone else. Or trying to be smart/ or just pulling your leg. Whatever do both, for verification. cyclegmom.

Oh, I know what you mean. I am always so surprised by how much silly information comes thru my e-mail from well-intentioned friends. Many times I check things with snopes.com and send them the "facts" about their e-mail. I wish people were more skeptical and a lot less naive than they seem to be.

Though I am a big fan of books or Libraries, I will have to admire and appreciate the role of internet in this modern world! In library we have limited number of books for getting information on a particular topic and we need to search many books physically and at the end we may not even get the piece of information saught by us! Then after getting the information we need to get them on reference cards , while doing so we may miss good pictures or photographs pertaining to the particular topic as these can't be anyway be taken on these cards. Thus internet not only provide us many reference articles at atime but we definitely have an advantage of saving these articles as a whole in a separate folder for our future use, which obviously includes every thing right from pictures, photographs to videos too! Thus down loading pertinent data is a biggest advantage in the internet. It is chaeper also in a long run! So,in conclusion, I appreciate internet when compared with Libraries though I am a big fan and like to preserve Libraries , for that matter I do have a small personal library!! Thanks! Happy Mylotting!

Before the Internet became popular and accessible, I used to go to the library a lot for information I needed, but ever since I got my first laptop accessible to the Internet, I have been searching for any information online, which is much more convenient to me. I have to say that it is a great invention of the Internet which makes everything so easy and convenient.

Though I have internet at home, I sometimes go to the library and use the internet there for research. It makes it easier because if I decide I want to find a book on the subject I am researching, I am right there. You are right, there is a wider range of information on the net. We just have to make sure it is accurate. I have found out that sometimes "finding it on the net" does not make it right. :-)
