Processor Speeds

With so many processors on the market nowadays powering the computers, I now find it really confusing. It use be so easy with p 200, P350, PII, PIII, PIV etc making it easy to follow, but recently with so many new variation of chips, Dual Core, Celeron, Atom etc I just can't seem to be able to follow it anymore and compare like with like. Can anyone give me a brief outline of the order the Intel and AMD processors go in please.
