As many now October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. One fact that staggers me is the statistics show that many people know a friend or family member is being abused yet they don't want to " get involved." If I personally found myself in this situation I would have to report it. Because if something happened to that person I would not be able to live with the guilt. How about you?

My first husband was abusive. It started out as verbal and psychological. He told me every day that I was fat, dumb and ugly. I was none of those things, but after 5 years he had me convinced. Then one night he woke me by punching me in the face. That was it. Over and done.
But many women cannot do that.
If you know your friend is being abused, offer to help. Many women who have been abused use all of their strength to survive and there is little left for the escape.
If you see your friend being abused, yes, call 911. Report any physical abuse you witness.
Beyond that, there's little you can do except to support your friend.
