how to install .cab (windows update files)?

Been downloading updates from microsoft for future use, so that when I will reformat my pc, I would have a copy of the updates. but my problem is I dont know how to install .cab and .msu files. does anyone have idea?

why do you need to reformat your system? that should be done as a last resort if you know what I mean like getting a new hard drive or something like that.

that's just in case i have to reformat my pc. I downloaded the update files from mirosoft,I manage to install the MSU and EXE files, but not the cab files.

i need to compile the updates so that i wont be needing to run WU again if i reformat my pc or install a fresh os to a new pc.

Why do you need to update? Does it affect you software or games that you wanna installed? Is there any programs required windows update?

Im using Vista Ultimate x64, it is good to recieve all updates for the OS with WIndows Update. Except for the KB940510 update that will disable the actiavation of the OS. (I dont want that update to be installed in my pc.)
