How can I play Counter Strike 1.6 online with my friend?

How do I establish the server? I gave him the IP address and stuff and asked hhim to join the game. But he wasn't able to find it among the many found. Can you please brief out the steps to do so.Thank you

Wat ip address you gave. go to my cmyip.com and you will get your IP address and add along with add the port of your server and give it to him.
the format should be like ipaddress:port. If many can find it, he should also be able to find it. I recommend go to tutorialecstrike.com and clarify your doubt..Or msg me i will try to help you...
check this thing also, have you change the sv_lan line in server.cfg
