It makes me laugh thinking of my funny experience with the smoke detector in our house. We never have smoke detector in my country, of course in my house I don't have one.. hahaha when I got married and live here in US. our house has a smoke detector which my husband did not tell me about it. No orientation whatsoever. When I do the cooking, I also do something else, because I used to multi task. I forgot my cooking and it burned. My husband get panic when the smoke detector give sounds, I also was so alarmed with not what happened why there is siren that never stop? hahaha I run around the house looking where it came from, my hubby outside the house come in running too.. he asked me what are you doing? I said, nothing?? he said, something is burning, that is a smoke detector!!! then I go back to the kitchen and see my cooking burned.. hahahaha. What a funny thing. I was ashamed of my ignorance about that thing. When I think about it now? it makes me smile even if I am alone. Did anybody have similar experience? LOL.. I think I am the only one who has it. But anyway, it's a good thing to share..

I didn't really know what smoke detectors were either, when I moved to the US. But since there was this strange round thing attached to the ceiling with a green light on it, I asked my husband what that is doing there. We have very sensitive ones. If you cook something smoky they go off. Even if a little smoke cloud gets in from the BBQ outside (like when somebody quickly opens and closes the patio door) those darn things go off. I'm quite good at ripping them down and detaching the battery to make them stop beeping. But my husband has to put them back up. I appreciate their function and I'm sure they'll wake us up out of deep sleep if there ever is a fire in the house in the middle of the night. But sometimes, just sometimes, I'll just want to throw them out the window;)

yes right!!! hahaha I feel the same way. i want to put them off right away then they made noise because it is very disturbing. Even a little smoke? but anyway, Most US homes are with this round thing that keep us alert when something is wrong in our kitchen. I know now how to stop them. I was glad one time when the battery of our detector run out but hubby wants it to be functional, so he bought another new one. I t is annoying because every time I start the fire in our wood stove, the detector keeps on beeping. grrrrr

It's good that you can laugh about it now, but it must have been a very frightening and then embarrassing experience at first. Your husband probably didn't tell you about the smoke alarm because it was a common devise in American homes and one he took for granted.

yea, you are right!! he doesn't tell me anything like that. He taught me how to operate some appliances in the house but others I have to discover it myself. This smoke detector I have no idea about it until it started to blow... hahaha funny thing but embarrassing for me.

Hello Bebs. It is so nice to have smoke detector in the house as it can help make you feel safer when some smoke comes. Yeah, it is true indeed that it is funny when you did not know something that exists there already. Good day to you, Bebs.

Ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha! I can't help laughing! That's really funny. I can imagine you running around the house. Ha!ha!ha! Sometimes it's a shame to be ignorant of those high tech gadgets! Yes here in the Philippines we do not have smoke detector. But at least through your story, I now have an idea what a smoke detector is about! At least when I had a chance to go to a house with a smoke detector, I will not run around like you when I hear a siren! Ha!ha!ha!

Oh LoL. At least it was a memorable experience and you've learned about the smoke detector in a funny way that you'll always remember from time to time. I guess smoke detectors aren't for safety purposes only but for entertainment purposes too. Hehe! Kidding. Thanks for sharing your experience, I can only imagine both of you laughing at what happened. Hehe. God bless.

I know all about smoke detectors and what makes them sound and I have set it off at least 8 times. It can happen to anyone! It is funny that you were running all over looking for the siren without knowing your food was burning! I'm glad you can laugh at yourself, for you will be much happier being able to share your joke with others! The first time it happened to me, I didn't know how to get it shut off and I had to get chair and take the battery out. It was a chore and now I just open a window and fan a broom in front of it to clear the smoke away. That is the quickest way to make it stop. They are necessary however because if you didn't have one and didn't realize your food was burning, you could burn your house down. Just make to check the battery every 6 months to make sure it is still working. If you need more of them, the firestations in your town gives them away. They also give away batteries for them! Be careful!!!!

hhaha it is funny!!!I did have a great laugh to myself thinking about it. yes, I know now how to stop it.. just fun the smoke out from that detector it shuts off. We never use that in my country. If our house will burn while we are sleeping we will never notice it until we will be caught in a big fire. That is how it is in there.
