The Upcoming Presidential Election and the Electoral College

I have spent the last few months thinking about this election. I'm not sure I'm even going to vote. Yes, I know all the arguments out there. People have fought for and died for the right to vote. Many people in other countries don't have this right. Not to vote is to give a vote to the other party. ETC. But, the American people DO NOT elect the president, the Electoral College does. After the election where Al Gore won the popular vote and lost out to Bush, it is obvious that our representatives are not voting the way the people do. Therefore, why vote? Any thoughts on the subject?

I was sitting today pondering this very subject. Millions of dollars have been spent trying to sway people to vote for one or the other and it means absolutely nothing. Bush proved beyond any doubt in 2000 the popular vote doesn't mean anything. I don't claim to be very smart but this just doesn't make any sense to me. Like you say why vote for President?

I had always thought that Americans would have been in an uproar if this was ever to happen, and yet not one seemed to notice when it did. I just find it incredible!!! I wanted to vote in that election, but had just had a c-section. Now I don't really even care. When I brought this up to some family members, no one even know what to say. They had no argument, and that's not like some of my family. lol

Your family knew you were right so what could they say. A lot of things have been put over on us like this over the years. It is done a little at a time over a long period of time so the changes are small. If a lot of this crap that has been pulled on us was done all at once the people would have rebelled. In the past 50 years we have lost a lot of our rights as Americans a little at a time. It has gotten to the point now where they just about have us where they can do what ever they want to and we can't stop them. If Obama gets President then God help us. I honestly believe Obama is a plant that is being inserted into our government by rich powerful Muslims. He came up with way too much money and it didn't come from the public. If that many more people were backing Obama he would be a lot farther ahead of McCain in the polls than what he is. That tells me the money is coming from big money people that are not being figured into the polls.
