Do you know how to make a good review in ciao?

I was busy with ciao from time to time, juggling my time in mylot and there. I find it easier to earn money in ciao but find the site somewhat boring, so one really wonders why I would still spend more time doing mylot and why not just concentrate on ciao, I love the interaction, oops but that is not the point. I make reviews on ciao and I knew I am not good on that field but as much as possible I try my best to tell how I feel about a certain products, like movies (most of my reviews is of movies) and I also tell if I did enjoy it. Some comments would say that I did express how I feel (well in fact I said I enjoy the movie) and then some would say that I left some facts and that I need to write more details about the movie. My bad is I also left some comments like that and no am a bit confuse on how to make a good review. do you really need to put information like the actors who played it, the date it was release and the soundtrack, the directors? or in gadgets and electronics, do you really have to say the specification and all? and in games, do you have to type in the number of chapter, how many levels etc? I knew some people there who really knows how to make a good review and I do hope you will comment back. I searched on how to make a good movie review and it says you don't need to list all, just a recap and your opinion backed by some scenes on the movies, you also have to include your expectation on the movie and if it is meet. and that you should be honest too (well I am in that part) I am not keen on making reviews on other products too.. I hope we can help each out. SO how about you guys? what is you take on this? How to make a nice good movie review?

Hi pehpot! If you look at my first few reviews in CIAO you will see how much I've improved thanks to the other users who helped me out and friends that gave me bits of advices. At first, I totally sticked with the "Your Experience" phrase that I just started blabbing about the movie that I was writing a review of. Now, when I read them I know I could've done a little better. Different people have different points of views and some users would tell you how nice your review is and some would ask you to add more details. In my own opinion though, I always write what the movie is about and I stick with the plot. I don't give away spoilers or go story-telling already. After sharing the plot and some main characters, I share my opinion about the whole movie. I don't normally state the obvious and then stop at that. I share my own experience with the movie, my thoughts, ideas, etc. Plus, I format my review so it'd be easier for potential buyers to read. I personally think format helps. Also, check your spelling, capitalization and punctuation because most users and readers are particular with this. We're trying to keep CIAO as "formal" and informative. No one wants to read a lousy review written in a lousy manner. Remember that we are kind of helping buyers decide whether to buy a certain product or not. As long as I keep this in mind I don't worry about others asking me for more details and stuff because I know that I've provided the necessary details for them. It may lack a few description but I make sure that the important ones are included in my review. When I happen to search for something and I find a review on it written like this: "i try 2 be honest nad r8 nad leave a coment on deyr review.i tel dem 2 check thier speling 1st b4 posting." Yes, there are a number of CIAO members who write reviews like that and I'm not being mean when I leave them comments, I'm just trying to help them cos you've got to be honest it's annoying to read reviews like that when you're looking for reviews about something. There are also a couple of newbies who writes nonstop reviews but with no quality. Every body's thinking it's so easy to earn there, well it is a little but quality is also a must.

hi, Mara.. Thank you for that.. You know, I've written a discussion here in myLot regarding my concern about quality articles. When I first written in Ciao, you'll notice that what I've written was about my own personal feelings, experience about the product. But then I receive comments like, it needs more details and such. Thinking that I need higher ratings (to get higher pay ^^v) I decided to go along with the common reviews there even adding unnecessary details. The recent movie reviews that I made were like really spoilers since I almost retold the whole story. ^^ haha! Well that's the way I think I can convey my own thoughts about the movie. I made friends with some Ciao members, Indonesians who were some kind of bad in English. They write good reviews but it's annoying to read their articles, so we help each other by writing comments and sending private messages. Yes, I've seen a lot of people who wrote there just for money. They just copy-pasted their articles and write just 1 sentence about their opinion. I'm glad that there are people like you and Ate Pehpot who are still considering writing quality writeups. ^^v

Hello pehpot I have gone through your topic and it impress me. I am also a ciao members. I joined the site in the month of Oct.08 and at the end of Oct.08 I have earned good money and also I have sent my request and they have accepted and it is expected to receive within 15th Nov.08. Now let us come to the topic , you have asked about good review. In ciao lots of options are there. To write a good review first you have to read all the reviews minutely and thoroughly and you must apply your own view with own languages. You have told that most of your review on movie based. I have studied that most of the members written their review explaining the story of the movie , character of the performer. In actual sense it should be merits and demerits and opinion of the member. While reviewing the movie I am establishing my own view i.e. weak side and strong side of the movie. I think after reading all reviews you will get a general idea and thereafter you can review. Keep it up. Ciao is a good site. pkc3000

i am a member of ciao too. Aside from mylot i also enjoyed i ciao. Although i am not too good in making reviews but time to time i have learned from the comments of other ciao members about my review. I think you don't have to tell everything but the important ones. Just a brif summary but not totally saying everything that would make into spoiler one. to make it better, put more on personal opinions / recommendations.

I'm a member of ciao too ^_^ So far i have made 3-4 movie reviews but i have not received any comments on it just yet.. lol =D ANd i too, din comment on anybody's reviews too ^_^ I guess a good review is from your thoughts about the movie, describing it as real as possible, and most importantly, the facts must be right. Focus on the strong points of the movie if u wanna recommend others to buy or watch, and focus on the weak points if it's really a waste of money ^_^ hehe ^_^ That's how i do my reviews on ciao.. BUt be it, done in the right way or wrong, i will explore somemore and try to improve my reviews too.. haha

Well I can't really give you pointers on your topic because I have not done any single review but I want some first hand views that will encourage me to start my pending account with Ciao. I hope to hear it from you./lol/

I can't help you because I've never been on ciao. I have thought about it. When reviewing a movie, do you have to watch the whole thing?

of course you have to, how can you make a review of something you never experienced? or maybe if you have a very creative mind you can but that would not make you a credible reviewer.

Hi, Kuya pehpot... I am also confused what's right and wrong. People have different points of view, don't they. Do you know Review Stream? I can see that the contents there are really good reviews. They are all about the opinion of the author. In Ciao, usually they include all the details like Characters, The Plot, Credits just to make their articles long, then their opinion of the movie is just one sentence. the first article I wrote in Ciao is my opinion of the movie that I reviewed, but I got a first comment that it needs more detail. I looked around and saw most of the reviews contain this and that, so I tried adding those details. But then my opinion side of the matter suffer. I think it's still best just to put simple and concise point of view of the product. If people wants more details of the movie, they can check out IMDB.com.

You know what, people on Ciao have different definitions of what a good review consists of. I've noticed that many movie reviews have a synopsis, cast, awards, etc and information you can generally find on the internet. Yet the longer your information is, the better ratings you get. For me, I just want to know if you liked the movie and what it was about. Keep posting my friend!

I just tell what I know and what I like and dislike about a product. If it is a movie, you really don't want to give too much information about the story. There would be no point in seeing the movie if you tell everything about it. I would list the cast of actors, and maybe the director. Some people want to know those things, some don't. Tell enough about the movie to make people want to see it, but don't give away the ending.
