Japanese coy anyone?

Our house is newly built. My father had a stroke several years ago and someone suggested that Japanese coys are good therapy. I'm wondering if someone could testify here how effective they are and is anybody here interesting in having fish for a pet? If you could tell me some details about this fish, please do, I'd like to give it as a gift to my mom and dad who is planning to put up a fish pond around our house. Thanks.
