Ever notice the increase in police equipment. Watch a cop show from the late 80's and cops wear a gun, hand cuffs and nightstick. Modern cops carry everything but the kitchen sink. I just wrote an article on police technology you might find interesting. http://hubpages/hub/The-Polic-Utility-Belt
Can you think of some other interesting improvements in the technology of Police, Fire and Emergency Medical People? Let me know and I'll try to get more information for future articles. This one is a general overview of improvements in personal equipment but I plan to have several in the future that feature specific tools not only useful to cops but possibly to you as well.
Please share your ideas.

I tried following the link but it didn't work for me. I do think that police carry alot more on them now b/c there is more for them to deal with. Example, they now carry latex gloves in cases where they have to handle a bleeding person (prevention for HIV). I believe they also carry the little things that are put over a persons mouth in cases of CPR (sorry don't know the name of them) again in prevention of HIV. These things have to be carried somewhere and the utility belt is like a cops equivalent of a womans purse...everything goes in it.

This link will take you to my profile. There are a number of hubs including a couple I haven't posted here yet. The utility belt hub covers a lot of the things I learned to use in the police academy around 12 years ago. Cops have added a couple new ones since then. Cell phones have replaced pagers for example and radios have gotten smaller and more powerful. Push to talk cellular is even replacing the radio for a lot of direct communication with specific officers because the encrypted digital signal isn't picked up on scanners.
