There has been informal discussion, although very seriously contemplated of placing a new NHL team in Hamilton, Ontario. We all know that no team will ever be comparable to the legendary Toronto Maple Leafs. However, what are your thoughts on a new NHL team in Hamilton and what positive or negative impact would it have on the Leafs?

So. Ontario can definately sustain a 2nd team (considering NY has 3)....but politics will never let it happen. The Leafs own that "territory", and won't share that lucrative market without a hefty payoff. Plus NHL execs dont like the idea of another Canadian team, despite them being the main money-winners. Heaven forbid we put another team in a hockey hotbed, lets go to Las Vegas instead! ;) The more Americanized NHL gets, the closer we get to that insufferable "glow puck" coming back :P

I totally agree with you. I don't think it will happen right away but I do believe that it is certainly a possiblity. I can only imagine the rivalry if a second team is placed in Ontario! Either way, "Go Leafs Go"

I think Ontario can support a team, just what business in his right mind is going to pay the outragous fee to the greedy teachers. The Maple Leafs lead the league in revenue and have been sold out for what 40 years now, so I don't see a problem there. Just between the franchise fee and the terratorial fees a owner would be much better off looking at Kansas City and Las Vegas, both the rumored destinations of the next two teams. Remember owning a hockey is not about the passion that many of us fans have, but instead about making money.

I don;'t think Ontario needs another team. Maybe another team is needed more west. I am here in the U.s. so I am only guessing.I thought The Leafs owned the east like the Oilers owned the west.I would rather see a team move than fold , but is one really needed in Ontario? I don't think so.
