If you had a choice to make an investment for a time frame of not more than 1 year which would you choose? wd it be an investment in stocks, gold or real estate? or maybe something else?

Perhaps the UK's situation is different (where I live), but I thought it was similar to the US right now. Property (or real estate) is plummeting in price here in the UK and is forecast to continue to do so over the next couple of years. Stocks on the other hand have already dropped a great deal so if you want a long-term investment, it's actually a great time to buy stocks right now before they go back up again. Of course stocks could drop a lot lower, but that is not as certain as property values dropping further. ;)

but like Sirrob says, gold is a good option right now.

If you have to consider the present situation then stock are so volatile right at this moment. Real estate is a great, concrete and real solid investment but you cannot appreciate ROI within a year or less and this requires bigger start up. Gold is another reliable valuable and I believe would be the best in your examples. You haven't seen gold drop dramatically in a given year even in the recent global crisis yet it's value in the market leap so high in the past 2 years. So I would say that if I have enough money, I will buy gold.

Right now I would say Stocks. They cant get much worse. Property is forecast to fall over the next couple of years though...

I think gold or real state would be a wise choice. Although i have no idea on real state business but it is good for 1 year investment i think. Because you will get more return for your investment.
