I am Atheist. Have been for a while. I don't mind what religion any one else is and a matter of fact I actually talk to alot of people about their religion. Noone has known I am atheist until I say I am. The responses I get are pretty much awful for the most part. People then treat me like I am stupid or they get really mad. I explain to them I don't want them to stop believeing or being proud of their religion...just don't burn me at the stake for what I decide in my life is right for me. I got fired from a job because I was not religious...the bosses dad was a pasture and didnt approve of an aetheist working for the company. Believe it or not...I know I am not the only one. I know that no matter what your religion we all get labeled and treated differently rather it is good or bad. Have you ever experienced being treated different for your religion preference?

It is very unfortunate that religious bigotry and prejudices still prevail. We consider ourselves an enlightened and tolerant society but it's simply not true yet. I've never had a problem with anyone yet as far as my philosophy goes. I'm a Pantheist so most people just look at me funny because they have no clue what that means but don't want to ask for fear of appearing ignorant. The few who have asked have pretty much all been understanding, intrigued or changed the subject. But so far all have been at the very least respectful. I do not expect it to stay that way, I'm sure my time is coming for a resounding "YOU'RE GOING TO BURN IN HELL". Like you I don't have a problem with most religions or the people who follow them. But I do have a problem with the more...let's say devout in-your-face fundies.. who spew hatred, fear, intolerance and lies in the name of their god. They can get my hackles up pretty quickly though I try to be as respectful as I can muster for bullies. Welcome to myLot aprilshowers. I hope you enjoy your time here and I look forward to seeing you around!
