racism becoming a large problem.

I dont know if its me but ever since the elections I have seen racism rise to an all time high. I have noticed those that I have known for a long time to say things I thought out of their character. And the hate that I have heard is so much to make someone sick. Comments on hate crimes on blacks and President-Elect Barack Obama. What has this country come to??? Is it not 2008??? Maybe some of those in our country have not progressed in their thinkings to move past the pigment of our skin and look at someone soley on what they can do for our country. Anyone with their thoughts please help me understand why people can be so closed minded?

hello desireetoro, it's not that people were not racist before. they have always been racist but kept it hidden. the election of a black president brought out their racism. don't feel bad. recently my friend told me that obama was elected because THOSE black people voted for him. obviously she didn't stop to think that black people are a minority in the usa and that even if every single black person voted for him it still would not be enough to elect him. there are many ignorant racists in the usa and that's the way it will be until the end of time. the only thing you can do is to avoid people like that and find friends that have the same values as you do.

I know what you mean. My cousin was upset by all the comments some of his coworkers made. You really see a different side of people. It is sad that race is still such a big issue. I think it is always going to be. The people that are racist teach it to their children and it just keeps going from generation to generation. Some will escape it, but it will keep getting passed down. There are some that will have open minds. I am very open minded and I will do my best to make sure my children are too. My parents were so great. There is some stuff they weren't open minded about, but they never voiced their opinions in front of us, so we were left to make up our own minds on how we felt.
