The foremost duty of a fater is to provide protection for his child.I.e provide with food & shelter. As the child begins to grow up the father's role shifts to a provoding comforts & companionship. along the way the child picks up moral values from the father. When the child reaches adulthood, father should teach the child to survive & be self dependant. Without doing this, the fathers role is imcomplete. One can achieve this by allowing children to do their own work. You can even ask them to help you out in odd chores & thank them irrespective of their quality of work. This will certainly boost the childs self esteem.

In my case the foremost duty is just for me to be there for my sons and to cater to their every need. Helping them with homework, nursing them when they are ill, bying them new clothes and supplies for school. Lending a shoulder to cry on, someone to listen to and give advice to. Teaching them right from wrong, and giving them all the tools needed to grow up as fine functioning members of society.
