Do you honk a lot while driving?

Malaysia

I'm from Malaysia and the people here like to honk a lot whenever they're on the road. Same goes to places such as Indonesia and Thailand. However, when I was in London, I rarely hear any honk. This is definitely a big difference in culture and behavior. I feel that honking people is a very rude thing to do. I only honk when it's emergency or the car is going to bang my car. What do you think? Do you honk a lot while driving or do you normally keep your cool?

Hi there! I don't honk a lot. I find it rude too. I just honk if I have to get the attention of someone on the street or another driver. It has been also told by my driving instructor to avoid honking cause its a bad habit. In my country I seldom hear private vehicles honking in the streets. Mostly honkers are from the public transportation group. Picking up passengers on the streets. Ciao!

You must come to India to see the usage of honking.People who drive always keep a hand in the horn pressing it.They acquire a devilish pleasure hooting and disturbing others. It is a menace here.I don't honk as all others in the road do it for me.

I don't like a noisy place so as much as possible I don't honk when I drive. Also, I think it is rude honking without no reason at all unless it is emergency. I make it to the point that I keep my cool to avoid any trouble.

Honking is considered rude here (US) unless it is a warning of some sort of danger such as someone cutting you off in traffic and they did not see you etc. I believe it is best to keep honking to a minimum as it could become so common that we would not hear a warning of danger and miss it. We could become immune to the noise and it would become meaningless.

Honking or using your horn when you drive is a sign of precautions for crowded places. It is telling the pedestrians that you are there and you want them to be careful. Another thing is you use it also when there is heavy traffic in the area. It is a way of communicating with the other drivers. Honking is common among asian countries. We are taught to use the honk when passing an intersection too.

NOW, that is something new! I only know we're asked to honk when going at tight junction where the other side cannot see us. LOL.

I know what you mean it seems that certain places you go you hear a lot of people honking their horns, and honking is a very rude thing to do,since most people honk their horns because they are impatient,or they are in a hurry and think that honking at traffic will cause them to get where they are going faster,I live in the United States and I think if you journey to bigger cities you hear more idiots honking their horns for no reason, which gets really annoying,me and my fiance live with my parents in the country, and there is very little traffic, and you hardly ever hear someone honking their horn, unless they see someone they know and are honking at them to let them know that they see them, when me and my fiance go to the next county which is a bigger city,it is very common to run into a lot of traffic and there are always impatient people, and I have had people get behind me and start honking their horn like they think I can make traffic move faster,or if the light is red or something like that, people behind me will honk like I am supposed to run the red light so they can get moving to where they are going,I will admit that there are times I will get road rage, but I hardly ever honk the horn because I know it will not do any good, and it will only piss people off,and the only times I really ever honk the horn is when there is an emergency, when someone is going to hit me,or looks like they are going to hit me,if someone is going like thirty miles under the speed limit, which is very dangerous especially on the interstate, because slow drivers cause as many accidents and speeders,or if me and my fiance see someone we know, and we are honking to get their attention so they know that we saw them, even though if it is someone like my brother we will usually just call his cell phone and tell him we saw him, instead of honking at him, because honking does not always help, and some people get mad because they think you are honking at them.

I live in England and I must say that I hardly ever honk. I think the only time I ever decide to honk is if a car if going to reverse or bump into me so a quick honk will suffice just to let the other driver know i'm there. In terms of road rage I have odd the odd occasion recieved a honk from another driver but I generally don't tend to do this. If a driver annoys me or aggrevates me on road I just resort to the good old fashioned expletives and the odd hand gesture.

I don't really honk the horn when driving. Only when it is needed... even in traffic when the cars aren't moving i try not to honk the horn because it irritates me so ... then why irritate others eh?

No never. It's very disrespectful I feel. Guess I am just a kind Texan, but very few people here honk at anyone. Like the person didnt know they messed up...what's the purpose of honking at them afterwards? It's like yelling at a child after they mess up in a ball game or something. They know they messed up...so what did you accomplish by railing them?
