It's because we see a great person, someone who knows us inside and out, someone who has been there when were down. Someone who makes us laugh and cry. Someone who cares. we see the perfect someone in a friend but what we don't see is that as soon as we take that next step, they will turn into someone we never knew at all..

yes, you have answered your question urself.. i also did fall for a friend of mine recently.. and this is not the first time i've fallen for a friend..lol. but then experience helps me and i know its not permanent. i guess people fall for friends for many reasons.. some might fall because they know they might not get the guy or gurl of their dreams, so they compromise by making their frnds their gf or bf. in another case , it might be the emotional security that you have mentioned. or a third reason might just be that the sole intention of befriending someone was because frndship is the first step towards a possible relationship..lol.. after all when you like a person, you don't just go to him and propose. you first make frnds with him and only then you start showing your feelings, and try to know what he feels for you. so its logical that when the person finally accepts he has fallen for someone, that someone ought to be a friend..lol!
