Hello there my fellow mylotters. I've been away for a month or two. I had my laptop repaired and it really took long enough to have it fixed. And guess what? Just when I decided to be active on my online activities which includes myLot of course, another problem occurred. My desktop won't show and It only shows windows activation. It also says that the Windows Vista that is installed in my laptop is not genuine. I felt really cheated by the service center who repaired it because I really payed almost $300 to just have it fixed and now this things happens. I wasn't able to see my husband over at YM and I can only use my browser for not that long. I even tried to reinstall my genuine software but It's not successful. I already sent a support letter at Acer Philippines and until now no response from them. It really pissed me off. Anyway, I hope to be active again here and I do really hope that my problem will be resolved soon.
How about you myLotters, did this kind of experience happened to you? Any idea of what should I do? Do I need to reformat my laptop again? Care to share your thoughts and help about this.

I think it's about time to get a genuine microsoft software, if you have the original copy then I guess you have to reinstall it. And worst is you have to reformat the harddisk. I maybe too late for this discussion as I can see at the top the this was started a week ago. It only because, as you know, we have a very unpredictable internet connection in the office. And for a week now, we have no connection and so, I can not go online to make some posts, and so on. I hope your laptop will be fixed soon, very soon. Miss you so much, my best...

What did exactly is the problem f your laptop that you have to be fix by them that it cost $300. I think it is so big amount of money for a computer repair. You could format it again if you know how and sure of it. Honestly, that's one reason I hate about laptops. It is hard to be repaired so I stick in using desktop as it is much easier to disassemble and to repair.

That is costly to me for a laptop repair.
Here in the States a new laptop costs about $600.
And some on sale can be as cheap as $300.
As I stated it's almost better to just buy a new one at those repair costs.

Hi katkat. My laptop's motherboard had to be replaced and also the power supply. It shutdown more than a month ago and I brought it to the only authorized center of Acer. I guess I'll have to have it reformatted by the one who knows for I really don't know how to. LOL. HUGZ always.

My computer also has a warning in the right bottom corner that my windows is not genuine. Every time I put a background on it it deletes it and back to the black screen. I am hoping to remedy that soon. I have a disk that was for my other computer so I am going to see if that works to help take off the warning. I would seriously be asking for some money back. Or a new genuine one installed free since it seems you paid for it anyhow.

Gee! We've been experiencing the same thing. That's what's happening now with my laptop. All I could see is a black screen and a window that says windows activation. I had contacted Acer about my problem and until now I haven't received any response from them. I guess I'll have to bring it back to them so they could resolve the problem. HUGZ!

thats really sucks... well about the vista problem.... and everything.... whats your old OS when you bought your laptop? i think the older version has its drivers and software installed in it thats why you got problem with that. acers hardware has its build it software so you have to update all its component in order to work properly. and yep you have to familiarize with vista coz some programs and software need to be associated with xp or 2000 etc to work it right...

well about the warranty they must repair it in full service... and it is a big waste of time if they not fully fix your laptop...

Hi carinio. My old OS was vista too. I just don't know what Acer did to my laptop. I've been contacting them but until now I haven't received any reply. I had it fixed in Manila and I am living in Tagaytay. So when I go back there I will be spending again for my transportation and what a waste of time. I am busy with my kids' school and everything. I really hope that they had it repaired right because I payed a lot of money. HUGZ!

Hi friend! I really missed you dear! I'm glad you're back but not so glad because as you said not totally back! I'm sad that you have been having all those problems with your laptop. I hope you could soon have your laptop back into shape. I have not had such kind of problem yet so I am sorry I can't even help you dear. Welcome back. Even i am back but as you said not completely. Harldy in past two weeks i have posted 2 response. But today onwards i planning to spend more time again in MylOt. I was so busy with my work, now as project is completed i have few days of time to get start with the new one. And i suspect the new project wont be that hard to carry on with.
So i can do more MyLoting hence forth happy for that. But amazing that, during this two weeks of absence i have earned 1.5 $ even i dont have a single referals. I thinks it due to some of my discussions recieved few responses, also i have recieved few best responses for my responses. Good isnt'it.

Sorry I was talking only about myself in reponse. And about your laptop why dont to try to format and reinstal Operating System once. That might solve your proble, because most of the time it works for me like that. Hope your problem will get solved soon and hope you see your hubby too. Have a nice day ahead.

I was wondering what had happened as I had not seen you around for awhile.
You need an unregistered copy of Windows or the product code from the one installed originally at the factory for it to be considered legally yours etc.
Now days it is cheaper in the long run to just buy a new computer when there's serious issues with yours. My puter burnt out and the cost of a power supply and mother board was just a little less than a brand new puter.
So I bought a new one instead. If it shows up as Windows Vista is not original you need a new version or the product code for the original version installed.

Hi Grandpa. My laptop's motherboard needed to be replaced. My hubby asked me if I wanted a new one but I disagree for it has a sentimental value for me and my hubby. It was my hubby's gift to me on our 10th year anniversary. I have an original copy of Windows Vista with me. But when my laptop was repaired they've reformatted it too so I needed to get the product code of the one they've installed here. Anyways, I'm planning to bring it back to Acer's authorized service center for I have a 3 months warranty. Thanks for the response Grandpa. I miss my friends here and that includes you. HUGZ!

I guess you need to follow up that company and you really need to demand them to check your laptop again without giving or charging you more fee...that is unfair!
Anyway, I've been inactive also for so long, I am trying to be here for 10 minutes each day, wish to gain back my motivation![/i]

Am glad to see you back dhangski...that is such a shame about your laptop.wish there was something I could say to help but unfortunalty don't know the first thing about computers or laptops when they go wrong..but there are a few computer wizards on here so hopefully they may be able to help...hugs littleowl

Hi littleowl. Thanks for taking time to reply. It's really disgusting for I had my laptop fixed at the exact service center of Acer here in the Philippines. I just do hope that everything will be resolved. I will be bringing this laptop back to them for I have a 3 months warranty. Hope to be back 100% here for I really missed my friends and I miss joining discussions. HUGZ!

So that's why I never saw you online these days. I'm glad you are at least able to post here.
Try registering your laptop online with the serial number. They didn't completely repair your laptop at all. Tsk tsk...That's too much money for something that is still not working properly.
By the way, reinstalling the OS wasn't a good idea. It should be reformatted first before doing it. I suggest that you go back to the service center. What they did wasn't fair.

Hi yuna. I've encountered so many problems with my laptop for the past 2 months and guess where I have it repaired? I brought it at Acer Philippines. I guess I have to bring it back to them they gave me a 3 months warranty. I hope everything will be resolved. Thanks for the tip. HUGZ!

Nice to see you back, I have missed you, sorry about your laptop, I think those people have cheated you, and its disgusting. I don't know much about computers as my husband deals with any problems that arises and this is a brand new laptop so not problems. Hi tamara. I missed you also. I really feel cheated. Until now, I can't fully access my laptop. I haven't talked to my husband over at YM for I am not allowed to use it. I will be bringing this back to Acer for them to resolve my laptop's problem. I have been sick for days and I will surely do that when I already feel better. HUGZ always my dear friend.

Don't you have the original Windows Vista CD? I guess you should call Microsoft and tell them about your cd key. I don't think reformating your laptop would be a solution. Welcome back and hope you get it solved soon!

Hi mdesigning, I already sent an sms and email to Acer which is the one who repaired my laptop. I asked them to send me the product code of the Windows Vista that they've installed here. They changed my motherboard. Whenever I log in, a sign shows that the Windows Vista that was installed is not a genuine copy. I contacted them the other day and also today but until now I haven't received any response from them. I do have my original CD which was included in my laptop when I purchased it. HUGZ!

That's way too long for your laptop to be repaired.. BUt what happened to your desktop?? Is it a new computer?? But how come it will have windows vista instead of windows xp?? Or are u actually referring to the same thing??
IF so, it has to be that acer changed your OS for u, and by right, they should not do that at all, unless u did give them the authorization to change.. I guess, it will be better to get a new one instead, as i think more problems will crop up witht that..

If you have the original CD there should be a code on it. If the company tells you it's not original all you have to do is email a scanned image of that code (on the packaging)... if you have restore disks that also would be helpful. Since you said you had your computer at a repair center why not just go back there personally?
You should try to call yes i is inconvenient because you will be put on hold (im sure they have an 800 number so you wont get charged for the call hopefully) but you will get a better chance at results... wish you all the best.
