to be a good teacher you must have a lot of patience. knowledge can be learned. it's secondary, but the most important thing is that you got to have patience, because you will be dealing with different people with different kinds of personality and as a teacher you should know how to deal with each of them. with regards to teaching english as a second language, i do believe in the saying that practice makes perfect. thus, make them use/speak the english language in your english class as well as the other subject that uses english as a medium for instruction. as a teacher you must encourage your students to speak the language the best they can. they don't have to use unfamiliar words to say that they're good in speking english but a simple english will do as long as you understand and the people understand what they're saying.

If you want to be a good teacher, you must joke very often with your students.

I can't give u anything regarding the subject. But i think there are certain basic qualities any teacher should posses. They should be able to think from the student's side; there should be a balance between love and strictness shown to students; and should be able to give interesting classes.

Here is something that may be of interest. A modern way is to use the Internet. Have a look at www.aboutenglishlanguage.com You can use the program to teach your students. It has been developed by a person who has specialised in ESL for over 20 years.

I am somewhat of a novice having been teaching esl for only three years. But if your students are bored it's because you are boring and need to put some pep into the lessons. tip, use warmers but not necessarily for every class otherwise they'll just want to play all the time -- even adults like games plus they are useful for review. check out Dave's esl cafe or www.onestopenglish.com there are literally thousands of links and enough info to keep you on line full-time for years. language is absorbed by listening, speaking, reading then writing ease up on the grammar ( in many western schools it's not taught at all-- more's the pity but even native english speakers make lots of mistakes. Give the students confidence and they'll do the rest themselves with your guidance. Being understood is more important than grammatical correctness -- that can be polished later.
