Good writers are not necessarily good talkers

I write very simple poems, very simple lines, I make stories (for personal consumption though) but I love to write. I talk well but not as good as I write they say. How can this be when we have the same minds working...the same brains supplying the details of what to write or what to talk about ?

I am the same way, I love to write music and love singing, but when it comes to recording a song I can nvr hit my notes cuz its not as easy, I think speaking and thinking ur poems are 2 diff things, it is not as easy to interpret what's on your mind ,like how you feel, you gotta practice speaking your mind, maybe sing how you feel?

I feel the same way. Well, except I can't sing, and, you don't want to hear me try! ;) Anyway. Speaking for me is HARD. You don't get time to think about what you are going to say, and you can't edit it once it is out of your mouth! With writing, you have all the time in the world to make it perfect, and by the time you present it to the world, it says exactly what it is that you want it to say. :)

I'm the same. I can say exactly what I want to say when writing; the words just seem to flow naturally, but when speaking I just can't think of the words. It's as though writing compensates for poor conversation skills. As you say, it's the same brain doing the thinking whether we are writing or talking, but I think it's just that we are more at ease when we are writing and it's that, that allows the words to flow.

I am very bad at answering questions or explaining things, yet I can sit and write an informational or instructional article quite easily. I can't talk about my feelings and emotions, but I can write about how I feel and what I think. I think it must be because writing allows us to choose our words and how to use them, whereas talking is instant and does not give much time for thinking about the words we use, or how we can use them effectively. Writing is the only real way I have to express myself. I can write very quickly but I also take a lot of time to revise, rework and edit what I have written.

I feel the same as you guys. I love writing short stories and such. I feel that I'm getting better at it the more I write and the more I get feedback on it. But when it comes to talking, there are times that I feel that what I say doesn't make sense or that if I'm telling an anecdote, that the anecdote isn't well structured, or something. I think this is another reason why I enjoy writing. Not simply because it's one of my therapies, but because I can clearly see if it's structured and/or makes sense.

It's just like how some people can dance but can't sing, or the other way around. I write better than I talk because of school. My grammar is terrible, but when I write my grammar is on point.
