Does anyone suffer from Neuropathy?

I have been caring for my mother in law this past year and she has diabetes among other ailments, and one of the complications of diabetes is Neuropathy, from my understanding Neuropathy is a degenerative state of the nervous system. She suffers from it primarily in her feet and legs. She complains that she can't feel her feet, or there are pins and needles in them, or they are freezing cold. Not a day goes by that she does not complain about her feet. She is very overweight so I worry alot about her falling when she has no feeling in her feet. I have talked to her doctor about my concerns and she just says it's caused from the neuropathy. The dr then feels for a pulse in her feet and says she is ok because there seems to be good blood flow. All my mom can do is take medication. My mother in law is taking a drug called Gabapentin and amitriptyline. The Doctor did switch her to Cymbalta (which is an antidepressant) for a month to see if that worked better, but now we are back to the Gabapentin and amitriptyline. I wish there were other ways to help this condition and I am open to suggestions. This doctor doesn't even weigh my mother in law when we go for her appointments. My mother in law is very obese and she always refuses to be weighed, but I am sure if these medical professionals pushed the issue she would have to get up on that scale. I have been to the doctor many times myself and never considered telling my medical people that I won't get on the scale. I always thought that they would need your weight to properly dispense medication, among other reasons. Anyways, I love my mother in law dearly and feel so helpless to help her, and also frustrated. We all try to help her with her weight, but she really doesn't want to discuss it, so we try and keep good nutritous food in the house. all the medications she is taking I am sure does not help with the weight issue. Anyways, I am really interested in learning more about neuropathy and hearing from others out there that are like me, or are actually dealing with it. I am hoping to get more info so that I can help my mom. Thanks.
