How difficult is it to say No, to a friend?

Recently, one of my close friend asked a favor which i wasn't willing to oblige. He asked me to drop his niece at her house. I was too busy to do this errand, but he was persistent. He is well aware of my hectic schedules but he was really insisting. At one point of time I really thought of saying a blank No, but I wonder, I couldn't. And against my will I had to oblige his request. How do you say No to someone close to you?

I think a friend should understand us and will not really insist of doing things for him/her. In friendship there must be give and take or else it won't be a friendship. If you talk to him slowly then, he/she must understand your situation.

Hi, I would bear that in mind and i agree he/she must understand. But frankly speaking when I am really stressed out then to reason with someone however trifle the matter is, poses a problem for me.

Well saying No is generally an art, but for me, when it comes to friend I am very clear on my views as we share a fair understanding and never feel bad on each other responses. Sometimes the situation is so itchy as yours, there seems to be no way out. But i should say that it just a matter of time, before both friends can understand each others commitment. So, your feeling for not saying a straight No is enough for keeping you and your friend's bond intact and strong.

maybe it comes with age because i have "no problem at all" telling a friend "no".your young,on the move and need to take time for yourself, asking is 1 thing but being persistent and a pest is another and if he can't understand that tuff he'll get over it and if not he's really not your friend.you don;t have to explain it just say no.got it ? good.

Wow, I would remember that. I would try to be more straight forward. Anyways, thanks a lot for your suggestion. Cheers, Bodhi
