It seems like most of the movies now days were once originally books. Which book to movie adaptation do you feel was the best ever? And why? Is it a classic or contemporary story?

i will pick two series. first of all, lord of the rings. read the trilogy and watched the movies and the movies were simply superb. secondly, the bourne series. i just came across the novels that the movie is based upon, and i never really knew that this movie was based on novels. for me, bourne is the ultimate spy/action movie, way ahead than james bond and mission impossible.

I have many favorites. The first that comes to mind is Tess D'Orbervilles. Why? Because I saw the film a year or so before I studied it in highschool. And I got a A or a B on the final just by rewatching the film and taking notes in class. I never really read the book.another is war and Peace. This is another good film that saved me, and I mean really saved me, from reading the book.
