How discussion become TOP one?

I am talking about the TOP discussions of the day. I was thinking the only criterion is the amount of comments that particular discussions will get during that particular day. But when I look at the TOP discussions now I can see there some posts with few comments (around 5}. SO I am wondering what are the criterion to get the discussion among TOP ones? Anybody have any idea?

Hi Dieorfly,
I observed for the past three weeks that i am posting here at Mylot that top discussion usually came from old mylotters those who have posted more than 1000 posts. There are times that even the topic is not that interesting for me it is still on the top discussion. At the moment i am still observing how it goes as well as how to increase respond to my started discussion.
