Why does cats and dogs usually fights each other?????

I eager to know about it. Is there any reason, so cats are enemy of dogs. What happens to any dog whenever any dog see any cat. I don't think that, cat is a food for dog. Then why it is so??
Does anyone knows the reason????
I would like to know about it.
Just tell me any reason, which you knows.
Its fine even then also, if the reason is not scientific.

I have a dog who will be two in January and I also have a cat who is 14 yrs. old. My dog will smell my cat when she is asleep but if she moves he runs away. Some days she is real playful and will start running after him and they will chase each other around. With my two I think they are just being playful and having a fun time. If a stray cat gets in my back yard my dog will just chase it away but not harm it.

I usually see cats running after dogs,I don't know why.What surprises me most is a little cat running after a big and strong dog.What a surprise!!
