This Thanksgiving is at my house this year. Lets just say im not the greatest cook in the world. For crying out loud I burn water!! To top it all off.. My INLAWS are coming over. Last time she complained my turkey was to dry. Get this she also complains because the mashed potatoes were'nt fluffy! This folks I have to say if I make it through this Thanksgiving will be my last dinner I will invite her to if she complains just once. So do you have any tips for me. Share your thoughts maybe a quick recipe. I want to show her that I can cook!!

I would suggest that you cook your turkey in one of those roasting bags. Before you put it in the bag, you can either inject melted butter or some kind of marinate into it, or make sure to smear butter all over the outside before you put it in to cook it. I have a MIL like that too. Needless to say, I don't invite her for thanksgiving anymore.

Yes, my Thanksgiving is very peaceful. We just celebrate with my family and let my sister in law deal with her mother. You can also make refrigerator mashed potatoes. that is what I did last year. They are really good. YOu can make them up to a week ahead, I made them the day before. they have sour cream and cream cheese in them. Then all I had to do was heat them threw. They are my kids favorite mashed potatoes.

You can put sour cream in your mashed potatos, it's so good. I don't know if it makes them fluffy but they come out so good .

these are really great tips everyone has shared. Thanks! I didn't know about the sour cream and cream cheese in the potatoes I will have to try that one. Sorry I don't have any great tips of my own to share. Maybe someone else will post some more that they have. Good luck with you MIL they can be a pain at times. Hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving.

I admire you for just letting her in the door! I hate it when people complain about food they didn't even cook. And in front of the people who cooked it! Would they rather have slaved over a hot meal for no gratitude? Maybe the thing you will be most thankful for this holiday is their exit when they leave!

I use the Reynolds Oven Bags for my Turkey and I baste it a lot. And also try baking it very very slowly.Depending on what time you are serving dinner you can either get up early and pop it in the oven (with plenty of butter on it, I use at least one full stick sliced and placed all over the top.) at about 250 degrees or you can put it in the night before at about 200-250 degrees. Either way about 2-3 hours before you're ready to carve it turn your oven temp up to about 325 and let it finish baking. For really fluffy mashed potatoes cut down on butter and turn your mixer to whip at the end for a minute or two. Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving!
