Secret Santa

This year my family does not have as much money to put towards gifts as they have in previous years. With that being said, we've decided instead of getting small useless gifts for everyone, that we would do a secret santa gift exchange and get a nice gift for one person. This year I drew my sister (I actually secretly requested to get her because I've something special in mind for her) and my husband drew my mom. I am going to get my sister's computer fixed and get her a few computer games she's been wanting for a long time. I think for my mom, we're going to get her something from lush which is a really really awesome soap store. We're also thinking of maybe something to eat that you really can't find anywhere like something from europe or something. Anyway, are you guys doing something different this Christmas because of the tough economic situation?

well i start my christmas shopping pretty much the day after the previous christmas, so i am pretty much done already (i just need to get a bit more candy yet) i also make a ton of my own christmas presents which is way cheaper than buying anything and also maybe brings more meaning to the person recieving the gift.

I've thought of making Christmas presents, but I'm not very crafty and don't want to make something lame. The only things I can make are lame things.

here is a great idea for you to make. its not that expensive and here is the link. it is dry bean soup in a jar and you layer the beans and it looks really great! (teachers love it because it is a meal in a jar!)

Our family has always done dirty santa. Mainly because we have such a large family. So it doesn't cost much to buy everyone something.

My husband's family is very large and requires a Christmas like this every year. His mom, however, always buys for each one of their kids and their spouses and we buy for her.

We did this years ago when the family still got together every year as one big family and had a holiday party. The family really doesn't get together anymore so we've stopped doing that. We decided years ago that doing a secret santa was a way better idea because we didn't have enough money to supply everyone in the family with gifts, and there wasn't a point in buying gifts for people that weren't buying gifts for everyone else as well. It worked well for us during the years when we did it.

We all usually do one big gift and then several smaller gifts. Like a new set of dishes and then some bubble bath, chocolate cherries, treats and/or puffy socks. It just depends. It's really not about the presents but about being together. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

The idea that your family has for christmas sounds like a really nice one, it is amazing how in tough times families all pull together and make the best of bad situations. I have not had to change my ways this year really as I had been saving for christmas from the beginning of the year and so I had my budget for christmas through that. I have had to make sure I do not go over the budget though and I have cut down on the amounts of things that I buy for people so that is a little change, not sure how next year will be but if we are going to be affected then that is when we will know.

We have been always buying gifts, for me I love to make gifts, as I still do for friends and family. this year we will be buying Gift cards for our older boys, since they like to go to the movies on the weekends or go out to the mall, they like to buy their own clothes so that is what we are doing for them, as for my daughter we still buy her stuff, she is only 10 and still likes her barbie dolls and reading books and board games and of course wants a cell phone.lol so we decided this will work out great for us and things will go smoothly. not alot of wrapping to do this year and that's great for me. more time to craft for my christmas gifts for friends. I work from home and do alot of my shopping from my companies I rep for, since I do get a discount it does help, and works out great for some extra's for my crafting gifts I give. Bizmom24
