Would you smile while singing a sad song?

My Christian neighbors are practicing a song. I don't know what is the idea, but I guess they want to bag a prize in some singing competition. Now, the song is about how the poor Christians are being persecuted...have always been persecuted in spite of the "good" they have done!! The first verse is about how Tipu Sultan "persecuted" the Christians in South Kanara. The next verse is about how they are being "persecuted" again!! Now, the biggest joke is this. They ought not to sing that song happily. Yet one of them suggested that they smile when singing that song. Would you smile while singing a song about how everyone is persecuting you? Or does this mean that Christians love being persecuted? It does give them a "holier than thou" attitude!! Cheers and happy mylotting

While the song may be sad the smiling depends on their audience and their method of performance. One idea is that you should smile to show how much fun you're having singing and be really engaging that way. This is the cheesy smile. The other idea is to get into the song and sing it honestly from the heart and deepen the meaning of the words. Smiling may come into it, but it's not forced like the above option. This is a very basic way to look at this. There is a lot that goes into singing and performing.
