The works?

When I was in a conversation about the lord the other day I had an individual ask me to ask me paster at our small church if he is still preaching the works. What is the works and can you still goto heaven if you believe in the works?

I am not sure what the works is. But I think if it is what we do as in the good deeds we do, then well we dont go to heaven because we do good deeds. It is because of the blood of Christ that we go to heaven. Of course however, when we do get saved then we want to do good deeds, not to earn our way to heaven but because we want to become more like our lord.
