My son's Teddy Bear hamster girl had babies 17 days after we got her.

(We knew she was going to mate with the male) She is an awesome mom and hasn't eaten any babies.They are so cute, she had just 10, 3 black and 7 tan. They are up in the top 'condo' of the cage, it's been 10 days now and I have replaced 75% of the bedding a few times, but it REALLY needs to be cleaned- it smells and the babies and mom smell, I just want to get them completely fresh clean bedding, if I move the nest, Mommy freaks out and the babies start becoming uncontrollable, crawling all over the place, which in turns stress out mom. I just want to clean the nest area completely, will I be able to do this soon before the stench gets to us all?

hi KaMi...baby hamsters??? they must be very tiny and cute. i've never seen babies before. i came close to buying a hamster once but decided my ferrets keep me busy enough. yes cleaning up doesn't get done by the ones who make the mess for sure. :D

They are so cute and growing so fast, a couple of them have opened their eyes also. They are about 1.5 inches long, tomorrow will be two weeks and from what I understand I will be able to HOLD them! At that point I think I will totally clean out the 'condo'. I'm considering blocking the entrance since it's becoming crowded up there too.

wow so at first their eyes weren't even open. i wouldn't have thot of that. sounds so darling.

If you have male, It would follow that she has babies 14 to 17 days after you get her. Don't change all the bedding, just clean most of the bottom of the cage and leave the sleep area alone. She wants the bedding to smell like her.

We had hamsters when we were growing up but I never had to clean the cage my mother took care of that job. From two hamsters we wound up have 36. That was a crazy amount of hamsters lol. I dont think baby hamsters are cute at all if I remember right they are bald ick. I remember this one particular set of hamster babies the mother hamster kept throwing this one newborn hamster out of the cage. I dont know why she did that though.
