jobs in today's economy

With today's economy, jobs are few and far between. And just because you have a job today doesn't mean you have a job tomorrow. Everyday, businesses are going bankrupt, and workers are losing their jobs. Everyday, bosses are looking for reasons to cut down on their number of employees to cut costs. Today, unemployment is the highest it has ever been! Is your job safe? I work for a financial advisory firm, and our salary is based upon the performance of the stock market. When the stock market is down, my paycheck is down, and vice versa. Just a couple of weeks ago, a financial advisor in our firm was 'let go' due to the company being unable to afford to pay him. So far, with his cut, my job is safe, but for how long? I absolutely love my job, and at this point in time, looking for another job is not yet on my mind. I am very fortunate to have a great boss that will give me a heads up if it is looking like it is getting close to calling it quits. (the same as they did with the guy that got cut). I have been doing double duty to impress my bosses, going above and beyond the call of duty, so to speak, hoping to leave a lasting impression; thus sparing my position to be cut. I am hoping the firm recognizes the importance of my position and all that I do for our small company. But only time will tell..... Is your job safe in today's economic distress? What are you doing to ensure you don't "get the boot"?
